It was Las Vegas, then Noah’s graduation party, and now my trip to Hershey!
Sorry fellow quilters but my life is getting in the way of quilting! Although some of my interruptions are actually quilt related. Speaking of quilt related I am headed to Hershey for their Quilt Odyssey!
The Quilt Odyssey is being held July 20-23rd! My Quilter’s Groove Rulers will be located at Booth 103, I will be hosting my Trunk Show, and teaching “Getting in the Groove”. It will definitely be a busy and eventful couple days in Hershey PA. If you are attending the event please stop by and say hello!
Yes, it seems that this summer has me juggling many things and the days are just flying by. I’m hoping to find a little more balance in the month of August. If you haven’t already taken a peek don’t forget to check out my Facebook and Instagram pages; what can I say I like to give a little TLC to all social media!
WHAT, Flat Lisa is STILL in Pennsylvania?! Say It Isn’t So!!
Where is everyone? I know quilters reside in places other than Pennsylvania, so why is Flat Lisa stuck in Pennsylvania? Okay, perhaps you missed the Flat Lisa Reveal, maybe you skipped the Flat Lisa Reveal, or I suppose there is a slight possibility you aren’t interested in Flat Lisa.? Regardless, I will say it again I am eager to view my quilting friends globally. That being said I’d like, one more time, to introduce Flat Lisa! Share with me your quilting studio, classes, shows etc.(be creative if you’d like). Simply right-click on Flat Lisa below, save it to your computer and print out copy. Take a selfie with you and Flat Lisa and send your picture via email to Lisahcalle@me.com –It’s that easy!!
****Make sure you include your location so that I can track where my adventures have taken me. All photographs will be posted AND you will be entered to win a copy of my book “Divide and Design”. A winner will be drawn for end of this month. You don’t have a lot of time, so come on quilting friends I know you’re out there!!
Well, I don’t know about you but this Spring forward stinks…. don’t get me wrong, I like it that it is light out later but why do we even still do this silly time change. I think we need to boycott when we get to Fall Back… what do you all think?
So this weekend, I went to the NJ Quiltfest! Loads of fun with my pal, Barbara Persing… We helped out in Olde City Quilts booth… I don’t know about help… I played on the BERNINA Q24… the new longarm… what fun! There aren’t a lot of days that I get to just play so this was like a vacation. The machine stitches and moves like a dream. If you get a chance to try one out, be forewarned… you’ll fall in love.
MQX is right around the corner… I have added on my beginner template class… Totally Templates… there is still some spots available. E268r – Totally Template Thursday April 9th 1-5pm! Remember that you get the machine to yourself for 4 hours!!

From one quilt show to the next…. who’s going to Lancaster??? I will be there on Wednesday afternoon. Maybe i’ll get to see the quilts in this show. 🙂
is a beautiful and easy to execute feather… now, this is the last Friday of February but I still have one more feather that I’d like to teach so stay tuned as I am going to post the last feather on Monday…
If you’ve enjoyed February Feather Fridays, consider taking my Feathers for the Timid next time you are at a show!
I have been teaching now for quite a while and I hear this phrase spoken quite often….” I want to quilt just like you.” This is very flattering to say the least…. however, I want you to quilt just like you!
My friend Teri Lucas wrote a blog post that got me thinking about this. ( make sure you read her post) She was so right when she wrote that master painters didn’t become masterful overnight. It took a lot of failures along the way before they got to where they are.
When I first started quilting , I wanted to quilt just like Linda Taylor, Renae Haddadin and Kim Brunner all rolled into one. LOL And I wanted it to happen overnight…… well, I can tell you from experience that it doesn’t happen that way. It is a lot of practice and hard work but it is so worth it. When I look back at my earlier quilts, I can totally see their influences. (btw, all great ladies, if you get a chance to take a class with any of them…. run to it) Here is an example of my first “show” quilt.
I often look back at this quilt and wonder how I would quilt it now. Probably much different… maybe I’ll give it a try in some spare time.
Like Teri, I don’t teach to create mini me’s but to inspire you to find your own style of quilting. I encourage you to take classes from many different teachers, we all have something to offer and your quilting will thank you!
The ProSpine™ rulers have arrived… poor Fed Ex had to trudge through feet a couple inches of snow. I have a limited amount in this order but have a second order coming. So to celebrate the arrival of the new babies…. I will be offering them at 15% off till Sunday Feb 1st! I will have them at Birds of a Feather as well.
I love whole cloths! There is something so elegant about just a piece of fabric and thread. The problem with whole cloths as I saw it was that there was a lot of measuring (which I totally dislike) and a lot of marking ( which I detest as well). Maybe you feel the same way?
In my Mastering the Mini, I teach you how to create a one of a kind whole cloth with no measuring and minimal marking! What could be better?
Crown Jewels: Won HM at Houston International quilt festival
I used this method to create Crown Jewels and it did quite well on the show circuit. 🙂
I will be teaching this class at Birds of a Feather (Feb 7, 1:30-6) and MQX (April 10, 8-12p) (2 day and a 4 hour class)
Now, Mary from MQX has convinced me to do a hands on Mastering the Mini and More class…. what is this, you ask? Well, it is a 2 part class, The first day (4 hours) will be spent designing your mini and marking it! I provide you with the white fabric ( feel free to bring your own or I will have some luscious Radiance for sale, just the right size) and thread.
The second day, we will spend this time on the machines stitching out your beautiful masterpieces. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with. Make sure you sign up today as space is limited to 12 students… one per machine.
My whole cloth design
Here are some of the drawings from a previous Mastering the Mini class… these ladies have some wicked talent! Don’t miss out.
I am sure it comes as no surprise to many of you, I LOVE ruler work. So much so that I have my own line of rulers, Quilter’s Groove Rulers. Since I have designed my rulers to do what I love with minimal markings, I was encouraged to create a class to teach you all how to use them. If you already have some , thank you! I’d love to hear how you use them and how they made your quilting easier. If you are not familiar with them…. come to the Gettin in the Groove class to learn how having the right tool for the job makes life oh so much easier. I will be teaching this class at two shows this year, Birds of a Feather (Feb 7, 10:30a-12:30p) and MQX (April 10, 1-5)
I have 3 new rulers! ProSpine™ Small, ProSpine™ Medium and ProSpine™ Large! They each have two different size curves so that’s 6 different spines! They will be sold individually and in a set. I am so excited about these. We will be using the ProSpine™ small in class. I am expecting the shipment at the end of the week so shipping will commence the first week of February.
Here is the class sample….
