As some of you know, I have been trying to teach myself to quilt on my domestic sewing machine (DSM). I have been pricing on a BERNINA 145S for the past 14 years but just picked up my NEW BERNINA 750QE. Now, so I don’t fall off the wagon and give up, Teri Lucas and I have come up with a whole cloth challenge. We would love to have you join us. It is a small project and shouldn’t take up too much time.
Here are the particulars:
Size: 18″ -22″
Fabric: Robert Kauffman’s Radiance – for a nice selection of this fabric go to Olde City Quilts.
Thread and batting of your choice…
Time Frame…. done by Oct 13th (in time for Houston Market)
Sky’s the limit! I will be posting about the design process that I go through and show step by step photos.
I will be doing this project on a domestic machine… not my longarm. This is a monumental task for me as I am just teaching myself how to quilt on the domestic.
For those of you who wish to join us, I encourage you to send me pictures of what you are doing and your design process… if you have a blog, please post it there and send me the link. I think this is going to be a fun, no pressure, small project for the summer. Who’s in??
Happy Quilting
Lisa
Sounds like just the excuse I needed to buy some Radiance fabric!!
I love Radiance!!! Glad you are going to join the fun. Send me pictures as you go along. Its fun to see the progress.
I am in….will join you all. I have the 730 with the regulator. I also am a longarm quilter so all of my quilts are done on that. Would love to use the 730 more.
Excellent Lenore! When you get started send pictures along the way!
I’ve been wanting to do a wholecloth, and this challenge might be just what I need to actually do it! Small enough that I’m not easily overwhelmed, and using Radiance which is something else I’ve been wanting to try! Now to make the time…
Yeah! The more the merrier.
I would love to join you… going to take a look at the fabric!! Do we do our own design or try to mock yours ? Thanks Lisa!!
HI Karen,
You should design your own… if you need some help I do have a DVD specifically for designing whole cloth mini’s.
We can use are longarm ??
HI Rose,
Yes you can use your longarm! Join us, it will be fun.
That sounds like so much fun. I love wholecloth quilts. I’m in!
Is that 18 – 22 square or 18 x 22? Just ordered my fabric. So excited!
HI Laura,
So excited that you are going to join us! Your finished quilt should be anywhere from 18″ square to 22″ square.
Does it need to be done on the domestic machine or can we do it on Longarm?
HI Cindy,
It can be done on your longarm!
Count me in then.. I’ll give it a whirl. I just got your Mastering the mini, so I need to watch it now!
Oh Yes! Count me in! I am loving this challenge!
I also love that you are learning the domestic machine. You’ll have it in no time with some practice.
Yeah, I am thrilled that you will be joining us.
My book final deadline is 9/1. If I can join in after that, I might!
Mandy, yes join after you finish the book. 🙂
Sounds like fun. I need another deadline like a hole in my head but I work best under pressure so I’ll join you. And I’ll use my Bernina too!
I checked out the other site challenge criteria are different. I recently finished a WCQ in a sit down longarm it was great fun and a great learning experience. I’ll be watching for sure.
Count me in! Looks like I’m in good company too. Now to buy the Radiance, but not get too carried away!
Excellent Amy! Glad to have you on board.
I’m in, but I live in the UK, I am organising a group of us to participate, we are all fairly new Handiquilter owners and have met through Facebook, we don’t live near each other, would you be happy for us to participate as a group and then to have our work displayed at a local quilt show?
That would be fantastic Annelize! The more the merrier!!
We now have 20 in our little group, I will post pictures once we get going. Our fabric will arrive later today, we ordered it so that no two of us have the same colour.
Annelize, wow, 20 that is awesome. Are they all Handiquilter owners? Did you order Radiance or some other wonderful fabric?
HI Lisa,
Can you mark on the Radiance fabric? And with what marker?
ruth
HI ruth,
I use a Fine point blue water soluble pen.
Might have a go if I can find radiance in Australia!
HI Jane,
Even if you can’t find Radiance…. give it a try with something else.

HI Barb!

I need to practice my quilting so I’m considering this….
Love to have your Vivien!!
Is it too late to join in?

Lisa is that 18″x 22″, or from 18″ square up to 22″ square? Also, does it have to be Radiance fabric only? Are you teaching at quilt fest in Houston or just going to have a booth?
Saw answer about size. Now just need the other questions answered. Thanks.
Hi Irene,
No, it doesn’t have to be Radiance. You can use whatever you like. 🙂
I won’t be teaching at Houston, I will be working in a friends booth. Demonstrating my rulers and doing mini classes on Divide and Design and Mastering the Mini. 🙂 Hope to see you there.
Gonna give it a try. May not turn it in, but it will be a learning experience. I was born and raised in Houston. I live in the country now, but still close to my hometown. I’ll be there!
Lisa,
Your clas was fantastic and I would now like to join this Challenge! Can I still join, or is it too late?
HI LynnEl,
there is still time! 🙂
